Rotherham Reserves 4 Morecambe Reserves 1

A strong Rotherham United Reserve side put four past Morecambe Reserves this afternoon at Parkgate.

The game was just ten minutes old when Joe Newell opened the scoring swerving the ball past David Szezepaniak in the Shrimpers goal from just inside the area and came close to doubling the score minutes later with a shot which went just over. Jason Oswell came close twice for the visitors before he equalised just after the half-hour mark putting the ball just out of reach from Millers’ ‘keeper Lewis Price. Two minutes later the Millers re-took the lead after some good work from Anthony Forde saw him cross into the box finding Joshua Kayode who headed home from close range. Price brought off a good save just before half-time when he pushed away a free-kick from Morecambe captain Ben Hedley.

Anthony Forde and Joe Newell were working well together and they set up Ben Wiles early in the second half but his shot went wide followed by some good work from Morecambe which saw them hit the crossbar before a red shirt got in the way of a powerful shot from Gareth Thompson. Again Forde did well to get free of his marker and put the ball in for Jamie Proctor who saw his header go wide. But on sixty-four minutes Proctor did score when a corner from Forde landed at his feet and he prodded home to make it three-one. Three minutes later Forde hit the post with a free-kick but the Millers made it four on seventy-three minutes when a super pass from Wiles found Regan Hutchinson who had only been on the pitch two minutes after subbing Joe Newell who shot slid the ball into the net to make it four-one.
