Rotherham United have been drawn against Queens Park Rangers for the first time in the next tie of the FA Cup.

Goals from Ben Wiles, Freddie Ladapo and Will Grigg gave Rotherham a three-nil win over Bromley in the first round this season while a Michael Smith effort was the only goal of the game in the second round game against Stockport County.

The last time the Millers were in round three of this competition was last season in the Championship when it was their first game in the FA Cup of the season. Rotherham took Everton to extra time with Matt Olosunde equalising at Goodison Park after the hosts went in front on nine minutes thanks to Cenk Tosun. But just three minutes into extra time Abdoulaye Doucoure got the winning goal.

Like the Millers Rangers started last season’s FA Cup competition in round three. And, like the Millers, they didn’t proceed any further after they took Fulham to extra time at Loftus Road with the visitors winning two-nil.

Last time the pair met at Loftus Road was a November Tuesday night in 2020. Ilias Chair put the hosts in front on twenty minutes with Michael Smith equalising eighteen minutes later. But in time added on in the first half Bright Osayi-Samuel scored followed by a penalty from  Lyndon Dykes after Dan Barlaser was judged to have handled the ball in the area giving Rangers a three-one lead at half-time. Some good defending in the second half kept the hosts out with Michael Ihiekwe having a goal ruled out for offside before he hit the post in the final ten minutes, the rebound coming out to Freddie Ladapo who slotted home to make it an interesting last few minutes but the Millers left empty handed.
