Rotherham United’s Irish international star Chieo Ogbene had been acquiring interest from clubs during the January transfer window – some bids being turned down.

Reported in the72 today it appears that his exploits have caught the eye of Belgium side Standard Liege.

Having been involved in thirty-four games for the Millers this season the twenty-five year old has been playing for the Republic of Ireland this week – coming off the bench in a friendly against Latvia at last Wednesday, scoring the winning goal, and getting the Man of the Match in a Euro 2024 qualifying game against France last night.

Chieo is the Millers top scorer so far this season with eight goals and three assists and we hope he’ll be on hand to keep Rotherham in the Championship. He becomes a free agent in the summer and I’m sure there will be many clubs adding his name to their ‘wanted’ list. Although, of course, being Millers fans we would love him to stay at the New York Stadium.
