Rotherham United fans came away from the New York Stadium on Saturday tea-time with big smiles on our faces. We’d won!
Millers Manager Paul Warne says that we didn’t play as well as we have in our previous five games which we drew – and I think he’s probably right. BUT you can’t turn your noses up at three points – and I do think we fought hard for them.
So, it was a bit of a surprise to me to see that the stats show that Blackburn Rovers had fifty-nine per cent of possession, but then, as my colleague Baldtobeamiller pointed out, ‘yes, but a lot of that possession was in their own half’ and I can’t argue with that.
And, as for ‘long passes’ that Reading Manager Jose Manuel Gomes thought was all we did, well Rovers had seventy-eight to our seventy-three!
I was also surprised to see we’d only had one corner all game while I do wonder with both teams having ten fouls why it was that there were three Millers booked and only one Rover?
We had thirteen shots at goal, four of which were on target, to Blackburn’s fifteen of which five were on target. But, at the end of the day, it’s goals that count and Rotherham got three to Blackburn’s two.
