What Will The Millers Do In The January Window?

Rotherham United Manager Matt Taylor will soon be turning his thoughts to the January Transfer Window – in fact he’s already done this.

But what will this mean to the Millers?

A few weeks ago the Millers Boss told  Radio Sheffield that although he will be looking for players in the January transfer window it will be the summer recruitment that will be bigger.

And I fully understand that. He inherited the team he has now and will surely want to put his own mark on it, find his own players and, by the end of the season, he will have been able to fully assess what he’s got and what he wants and where we are.

For the January window he has already said that they would potentially be looking for players who can tweak things and give him different options saying, ‘we want a bigger variety in the attacking sense and a different balance in differing depths. But January is a false marker for teams like Rotherham. We are expecting the off season recruitment will be bigger and more like what we would like the end squad to look like although we know it could take three to five years to get a group of players exactly where we want them.’

Three to five years might seem a long time to most fans who want to see success straight away but if we think about it it is actually a relatively short time in football. It’s quite possible that there will be mistakes made in players brought in – they might not fit in the team, they might be more injury prone that first thought (we know a lot about that at Rotherham!) or the player might not actually like what he sees or is being asked to do.

Really it’s like the old saying ‘slowly, slowly catchy monkey’ and I think we have to understand that.

The Boss also said that January could be a time when the Millers lose their ‘best players and so you have to look at the bigger plan and the future of what you want to work towards.’

So, the question is will we get any new players in during the next transfer windows and probably more important will some of our players move on to other teams?
