Warne ‘We Weren’t Incisive Enough’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne was understandably disappointed last night after going out in the Carabao Cup at home to Morecambe.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the one-nil defeat the Millers Boss said, ‘It was like a different game to any other we’ve played this season.

‘Morecambe sat behind the ball and made it difficult for us and although we had loads of the ball we just weren’t incisive enough. You need to take your chances and I was disappointed with the goal we conceded when we lost possession of the ball when we shouldn’t.

‘It’s disappointing that we didn’t work the ‘keeper and I can’t explain that but my real frustration is that we didn’t move the ball quick enough. We got in good positions but we were trying to hit worldly balls as oppose to just putting it in the area. We got a bit frustrated and were trying to do Roy Race passes and they just weren’t working.

‘I made ten changes tonight so it is my fault we didn’t go through, we didn’t look as fluid as normal but I thought we’d have enough to go through, but there were loads of different relationships on the pitch and it will take time.

‘There were some pleasing things. Tom Eaves got minutes under his belt, Brooke (Norton-Cuffy) has played tonight and I thought he did really good, Cohen (Bramall) has played in the middle of the back three and Ollie (Rathbone) was really good so there are positives. And there are no injuries.

‘I’d have liked to have had a run in the League Cup and it wasn’t from the lack of effort I just didn’t think we had enough guile.’

I think the fact that we came away from this injury free is the big positive from last night’s game. We got minutes into players who hadn’t had much game time or were coming back from injury which is a help.

Onwards and Upwards as they say.
