Rotherham United certainly took their time to win at Wembley yesterday – but, let’s be honest, we never seem to do things the easy way do we!
But let’s have a look at those stats.
Including the extra thirty minutes that we went to the Millers had sixty per cent of the play (I probably think that was mostly in that final half-an-hour!) and although the duels success rate was fifty/fifty Rotherham won fifty-nine per cent of the duels in the air.
There were sixteen corners at Wembley with Rotherham winning ten of those while our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out as fifty-nine per cent while Sutton United’s was forty per cent. Our crossing accuracy was just thirty-two per cent – in fact we commented at half-time that we had hardly strung two passes together – with the U’s getting twenty-one per cent which surprised me a little.
The Millers had twenty-five shots at goal, seventeen of those from inside the box, of which twelve were on target while Sutton has two on target from fourteen shots.
Sutton’s tackle success rate came out at sixty-eight per cent, which was eight per cent more than Rotherham’s while both teams conceded nineteen fouls, Sutton getting two yellows to Rotherham’s one.
To be honest I don’t think a final of any sort relies on stats. Personally, I thought Sutton were the better team in ninety minutes with our fitness winning us this game. But, in a final at Wembley it doesn’t really matter how you win but if.
Up The Millers!
