The Stats – Millers v Foxes

|

Rotherham United came away with nothing from the King Power Stadium this afternoon when they took on top of the table Leicester City.

But what about those stats?

Firstly they tell us that the Foxes had seventy-six per cent of possession – and I don’t think we can argue with that. The Millers got the better of the duels having a fifty-four per cent success rate in all duels and fifty-seven in the aerial duels.

There were ten corners in the game with Leicester getting them all. Our passing accuracy came out at seventy-five per cent and in our opponents half fifty-three per cent (City’s was ninety-one over all and eighty-eight in our half).

In attack we had two shots at goal one from inside and one from outside the box with none on target while City had eleven on target from twenty-four shots.

Defence wise our tackle success rate was fifty-three per cent, thirty-three per cent better than our opponents and we conceded one less foul that Leicester who committed five while there was a yellow card for each team.

We all know that stats aren’t everything and we also know that a lot of people analyse the stats. But they don’t give the whole picture I don’t think. OK we only had two shots at goal but we worked hard for an hour to stop the top team in the League from scoring. Yes, of course, we had a little luck but that’s also part of the game. The Foxes fans were noisy – the Millers fans, of who there were many less, were also noisy and gave as good as they got. A couple of silly mistakes less and, who knows,  it might not have been three-nil.

Now we go again on Boxing Day.

And I wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.
