The Stats – Millers v Blues

|

Rotherham United’s away trip to Birmingham didn’t go as they expected with two first half goals enough to give the hosts all three points.

But what do the stats tell us?

The possession shows that the Millers had the better with fifty-eight per cent (hmm, not so sure myself). Of the duels the hosts success rate was fifty-five per cent and in the air sixty per cent. Of the fourteen corners ten of those went to Rotherham.

Passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at fifty-six per cent which was just one per cent more than the Blues while our crossing accuracy was twenty-three per cent (and there, maybe, could be a problem with a majority of the corners not finding a yellow shirt yesterday).

Attack wise both sides had thirteen shots with City getting five on target to the Millers one. Of the thirteen shots each both teams tried their luck nine times from outside the box.

With both teams getting in seventeen tackles our tackle success rate was thirty-five per cent better at eighty-eight per cent. We conceded twelve fouls and of the four yellow cards the Millers got three.

Yes, the ball didn’t go out off a Rotherham toenail for the corner that led to City’s second goal (I was sat right in front of that so can attest to it) and yes, we should have had one (if not two) penalties – but the corner was given and the penalties weren’t. Both of those decisions led some of our players to become annoyed which appeared to coincide with them ‘shutting off’ for minutes and you really can’t do that.

It’s a blip and we’ve had blips before and we now move onto Tuesday night where I think the players will need to get the fans going – and I don’t mean out of the ground.
