The Stats – Millers v Baggies

|

Rotherham United’s new Head Coach didn’t get off to the best start last night with a two-nil home loss to West Bromwich Albion.

But what about those stats?

Possession was more equal than the stats people (whoever they are) have led us to believe in previous games – the Millers having forty-five per cent – albeit a lot of that time I suspect was passing the ball back. We won more of the duels overall and won fifty-eight per cent of the aerial duels.

There were just three corners in the whole game with the Baggies getting two of them. Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at sixty-four per cent, just one more per cent more than our visitors with our crossing accuracy coming out at thirty per cent, Albion’s just nine per cent.

The Millers had four shots on goal, three from inside the box, of which two were on target while the Baggies had two shots on target from six.

Our tackles success rate was seventy-three per cent, our opponents a couple per cent more while we conceded eleven fouls, one more than West Brom with the only yellow of the game going to the visitors.

There isn’t a lot to say really – we kept giving the ball away,  gave away a free-kick in a good position for the opposition to score the second, don’t think the Baggies bothered Viktor in the first half but it was obvious they’d had a ‘talking too’ at half-time.  We can not keep playing the ball back ALL the time doing that isn’t going to get what we need and that’s goals.  A second home loss in a row and the fans will (some already have) start voting with their feet.

But, let’s see where we are and what we are playing like after Christmas and things might change – we can only hope.
