The Last Stats Of The Season

Rotherham United were sent out of the Championship through a late Cardiff City equaliser this afternoon although Millers Manager Paul Warne thought his team’s performance was good enough to take all three points.

The stats from the Cardiff City Stadium tell us that the hosts had sixty-two per cent of the possession, and I know I have red and white tinted specs but surely that can’t be? I would have thought at most it would have been fifty/fifty.

Success rates in the duels on the pitch today went the visitors way with Rotherham having fifty-eight per cent success, fifty-seven per cent success in aerial duels while the Bluebirds had six corners to our four.

Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at forty-eight per cent with our success rate in tackles saw the figure at forty-seven per cent. We gave fifteen fouls away with Cardiff giving away three less and we had two players booked to the hosts’ one.

Attack wise we had seventeen shots at goal, four on target (which has been our nemesis all season) while City had three on target from nine shots. Of our seventeen shots seven of those were outside the box.

It’s a sad ending to what was always going to be a difficult season. We’ve certainly had the highs but they were usually followed by the lows and today we came so close, so very close to having happy faces. But, it wasn’t to be.

We can all think of the ‘what only’s’ and the ‘if’s’ but I think we’ve got to take the positives from this season, which, OK, look short on the ground at this moment but if you look back you will see some.

So we start next season back in League One and although we could all have a good old moan let’s also remember that we are lucky to have a football team and, all things being equal, we will be able to see them live next season.
