Mr Andy Haines from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
Andy Haines will be starting only his 2nd season as a Football League Referee, after joining the list of assistant Referee’s for season 2002-03.
His career as a Football League Referee began on Saturday 11th August 2007 with the League 2 game between Chester and Chesterfield at The Deva Stadium.
The game ended goalless, but Mr Haines gave out his first ever Football League yellow card just 9 minutes into the game, when Chesterfield’s Jamie Winter entered his book for unsporting behaviour.
The name of Chester’s Paul Butler followed up after 72.
Saturday will be Mr Haines’s first time officiating a Rotherham United game, although he did take charge of 2 Lincoln City games last season.
On Boxing Day 2007 he was in charge for the emotionally charged game between Bradford City and Lincoln City at Valley Parade.
The game finished 2-1 to Bradford and Mr Haines booked 4 players.
Scott Kerr, James Hand and Mark Stallard from Lincoln and former Rotherham loanee, Paul Evans was booked for Bradford.
However, the details of the game were vastly overshadowed by the fact that the match marked the first league meeting between the two sides since the Bradford fire disaster in 1985 which claimed 56 lives.
The other occasion where Mr Haines took charge was for Lincoln’s 4-0 defeat at Peterborough on March 29th 2008.
Just one player saw yellow this time and it was for Daniel Hone from City.
In total last season, he was in charge at 24 games, booking 59 and showing red just once.
This was to Wrexham’s Silvio Spann in their game at Notts County on October 27th 2007.
With the score standing at 1-1 going into the last minute, Spann commited a Professional foul on former Wrexham player Hector Sam just outside the penalty area, he was shown a straight red and County scored the winner from the resulting free-kick.
The previous season whilst Refereeing in the Nationwide Conference he showed red 3 times during the same game.
5 yellows and 3 reds were given to players during Halifax’s 4-1 victory over Weymouth at The Shay.
