Rotherham United fell to a late first half goal at Wolves this afternoon but they did have chances of their own to score – with the majority of those chances falling to striker Danny Ward.

Twice Ward, whose last competitive goal came in the FA Cup game against Oxford in January, was one-on-one with the ‘keeper but failed to score – but that’s how it goes when you’re bottom of the league and your confidence is at a low ebb.

‘In football you can’t get better than a one-on-one and on top of that it fell to your best goalscorer and he’s hugely disappointed,’ Millers Manager Paul Warne told MillersPlayer. ‘I’ve got to try an pick him up now. Wardy gives his all every week and some days it’s your day and some days it isn’t. Today it wasn’t.

‘I think our season was summed up by Semi (Ajayi)’s chance late on when we got that little bit of luck but couldn’t follow through with it. Semi probably should have dealt with their build up to the goal a little bit quicker but he’s been excellent so I’m not going to criticise him.

‘I thought Joe Mattock, apart from the penalty, was outstanding. Then Pricey (Lewis Price) pulled off a great save

‘After a shaky start I thought Aimen Belaid was back to his best and Vaulksy (Will Vaulks) has taken on the right-back position really well. It was good to have Frecks (Lee Frecklington) and Tom Adeyemi playing together again and Richie (Smallwood) was just Richie and stopped them play.

‘And I thought Tayls (Jon Taylor) was outstanding when he came on, a bright spark and because of the way he played today will probably start next week.’
