Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne was delighted with this afternoon’s result if his celebration towards the travelling Millers fans after the game were anything to go by.

‘I thought it was a really good game and I’m obviously pleased with the result,’ the Millers Boss told Freeview after the Millers beat Scunthorpe two-one.

‘I knew if we could compete against Scunny then we were taking good strides forward and we are really pleased with how we played.

‘I didn’t think the first half was a half of many chances but we took our chance well. I thought we more than matched them in the second half and was the stronger team. On another day we might have scored more and we’re obviously disappointed with the goal we gave away. Apart from that I don’t think our ‘keeper had much to do.

‘With the pace and energy of my team we are always going to cause other teams problems.

‘After we scored they started putting pressure on us but I thought we absorbed it pretty well. They had a few corners but they never really had a free header at goal.

‘I thought my two centre-halves were excellent today. The work load they put in I’d like to see the distance they covered. Fordy (Anthony Forde) had a really disciplined game and Josh (Emmanuel) had some game management today which is really pleasing for me. And I thought Smudge (Michael Smith) was nearly unplayable today. He’s doing really well and with every game he gets a little bit better and a bit more confident.

‘I thought my subs did what I want and really changed the game and had a real positive impact.’

Asked about the two penalty shouts, one for each side, Warney said he thought he’d give the one where Marek Rodak appeared to foul one of their players, ‘At half-time Marek said the lad actually fouled him, ran into him and threw himself to the ground. And ours in the second half looked a penalty too.’

Asked about the eight added minutes at the end, Warney said, ‘I thought it was generous. You don’t ever see eight minutes at any level and in the end we played over nine. But I thought the lads ran the clock down well which is something we’ve improved on.’
