Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought his team performed well this evening against promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the late three-two loss, Warney said, ‘As a Yorkshire derby it was exciting to lead twice but I knew the game wasn’t over.

‘We set up four-four-two and we knew Izzy (Brown) would cause us problems in the hole but even if we’d got a man mark on him he’d still cause us problems. So I knew we were probably going to lose the battle a little bit in the middle of the pitch. But having two up front I was hoping it would create problems for them and I thought Jerry (Yates) and Wardy (Danny Ward) led the line quite well.

‘We were aggressive from corners and throw-ins and I always thought it looked like we were going to get goals. We led twice but they kept coming and in the end their class showed.

‘I thought our set-pieces were good tonight and I thought we were a good goal threat. The first goal was a bundled goal but I’d have took three of them. Tom Adeyemi’s goal was a screamer. At one-nil they got back into the game from a deflected effort from our defender which is disappointing. And the second goal was disappointing because it was from a set-piece. But the third goal saw Smith hit it sweet as a nut and it’s gone flying in and it’s hard to take on the ninety-third minute.

‘Right at the end of the game I thought the lads struggled to retain the ball and they kept coming. But I think Huddersfield are the in-form team in this league, they are used to winning and have self-belief. We’re the other end of the table and possibly some of my lads feel sorry for themselves.

‘Maybe we could have run out the clock a bit better but we were trying to get the three points ourselves.

‘I have to learn as a caretaker Manager how to help my team out so I’ll look at it and we’ll go again Thursday.

‘I just hope my fans were entertained. Yes the result is disappointing but from a performance point of view I’m proud of them.’
