‘It was all going to be about patience tonight,’ said Ronnie afterwards.
‘We opened nice and bright and got the goal, we should have been two up but then we conceded a sloppy goal which we were disappointed with. I think we earned the little bit of luck that we got with the penalty.’
The Millers were awarded the spot kick on 80 minutes when Le Fondre fell to the ground and whilst on the deck he was kicked by Town defender Sean Hessey. Many in the stands thought the decision had been for a trip on Le Fondre that sent him crashing to the floor.
‘I thought the first challenge was a penalty,’ added Ronnie.
‘Apparently it wasn’t given for that but for the stamp on Alfie, that’s why he gave the penalty, so if they lose their discipline then you cannot blame the referee.’
The Millers were forced into a change at half time with Dale Tonge being replaced by Mark Lynch, and Josh Walker was withdrawn in the second half, both suffering injuries.
‘Josh got a bang on his knee but to be fair to him he carried on,’ continued Ronnie.
‘His knee was quite swollen at half time and we haven’t got many midfield players at the moment so he hung in there as long as he could, before we put Lawsy in there and it worked quite well to be fair. Tongey has had a problem with a toe so he has had an injection in his foot before the game; all he needs is some rest on it.’
