Rotherham United beat Macclesfield three-nil at home today and here are the manager, Mark Robins thoughts after the game.

‘They made it very difficult for us today,’ he told Radio Sheffield. ‘In the first half, although not under any severe pressure, they made us work really hard and at times we didn’t have any forwards up the pitch they were all helping out at the back. We hit the post and got into positions we maybe should have scored from.
There was evidence we’d played a lot of games in a short space of time.

‘We spoke about it at half-time and tweaked it slightly. We pushed Ian Ross further on and Mark Hudson is more suited to playing down the middle. We picked the tempo up a little in the second half and I thought it was an excellent performance and we kept going. We were pleased when the first goal went in because we knew they’d have to come out at us a bit more and we could get them on the break.

‘Today, we lost Chris O’Grady just before the game and we have to have players who can take their opportunity and come in and I thought it might be Marc Newsham’s turn. But, it just wasn’t his day today.

‘I think I have to make a special mention of Ryan Taylor today. He looked electric and lit the place up when he came on today and he could have had three goals and be taking the match ball home. He was phenomenal and Mark Hudson had a good game and got into some good positions too.

‘We have to be careful and make sure we don’t leave gaps at the back because if we do teams will punish us. Andy Warrington’s kicking wasn’t the best today but it was a one off. I feel the back four and the goalkeeper work as a unit and they’ve been outstanding for us so far this season.’
