Rotherham Reserves 3 v Hartlepool Reserves 2

Rotherham United Reserves were victorious this afternoon at Don Valley when they were 3-2 winners against Hartlepool.

The Millers took the lead on twenty minutes. A Micky Cummins through ball found Ryan Taylor and although Mark Cook in ‘Pools’ goal saved the first shot, Taylor was still on hand to head in the rebound. Five minutes later Marcus Marshall received a good ball in from Taylor but Cook got down well to block. In the final minutes of the first half, the visitors got an equaliser. Billy Greulich turned well and hit the ball onto the underside of the bar and, after a scramble, it went over the line.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Hartlepool got a penalty after Dale Tonge tripped Armann Bjornsson in the box. Michael Mackay took the penalty which was well saved by Jamie Annerson with his legs. The visitors were made to pay for that miss when trialist, Taiwo Atieno got on the end of a perfect cross from Gary Roberts and cooly headed into the back of the net and a minute later Taylor got his second and the Millers third of the game. ‘Pool got a lifeline twenty minutes before the end when a mix up in the Millers defence let Greulich in to make it three-two. Taylor nearly got his hat-trick on eighty minutes when he had a shot from long range but Cook did well to punch the ball away.
