Huddersfield Town 6 (six) v Rotherham United 0

Rotherham United Reserves were decimated at the Welfare Ground, AFC Emley’s ground, this afternoon by Huddersfield Town Reserves.

Daniel Hancock was in goal because of a shoulder injury to on loan Jonathan Lund and he was soon in the action when, in the opening minutes, he turned round a shot from James Spencer. But, as the Terriers continued to take control, Hancock was beaten on five minutes when trialist Taser Hassen smashed the ball past the youngster.

The visitors should have equalised four minutes later when Ryan Taylor hit a first time shot but Town ‘keeper, Simon Eastwood, managed to get to it and push it round the corner. It was Taylor again on fifteen minutes that had a header cleared by Spencer Harris. The Terriers second goal followed this when James Spencer picked up a loose ball twenty yards from goal and curled the ball into the net. Three minutes later, Robbie Simpson got an excellent pass from James Berret and prodded the ball past an advancing Hancock. David Haggerty then made a ditch tackle to stop Simpson getting his second and, at the other end, Eastwood made a great one handed save from Stephen Brogan followed a couple of minutes later by a save from Mario Simunovic, the Millers winger who is on trial. Hancock made a save from Spencer but Town went further into the lead just before half-time when Spencer walked past the Millers defence and put the ball into the right hand side of the net.

Robbie Williams and Simpson had shots at goal in the opening minutes of the second half while a Brogan shot went straight to Eastwood. Taylor had a shot deflected over the crossbar and, from the resulting corner, Marcus Marshall’s header crashed against the crossbar.

On the seventieth minute, Nathen Clarke flicked the ball on at the near post and Simpson was on hand to toe poke the ball over the line. The sixth goal came in the closing minute of the game when Simpson slid the ball past a helpless Hancock for his hat-trick.
