Rotherham United manager Mark Robins told The Advertiser that striker, Chris O’Grady was ‘a little bit off it’ last Saturday at Dagenham. I don’t think the manager was really slating the striker’s game but more commenting on the fact that he was still under the weather after the nasty head injury he received nearly two weeks ago at Millmoor.
O’Grady, twenty-one, went up for a challenge in the last home game with Morecambe ‘keeper, Joe Lewis, and ended up in hospital with fourteen stitches in a head injury which he says is the worst injury he’s ever had.
‘I don’t remember much about the incident,’ O’Grady carried on, ‘I was out cold. I went to hospital and had stitches in, then went home and on Monday I returned to training. I wasn’t able to head a ball until the day before the Dagenham game, I tried but it was still a bit painful.’
He wore a big bandage for the game itself with a lot of padding under it and he says that when the ball hit it he couldn’t feel a thing. ‘I was a bit tentative at first but eventually I just got on with it.’
‘Looking back at the way I got the injury I know that you can’t afford to pull out of challenges like that. The fans wouldn’t be pleased if I did.’
