Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans couldn’t have been more pleased for striker Alex Revell this afternoon when he not only got the only goal of the game but also picked up the sponsors Man of the Match award.

Saying that Alex had an excellent game, the Millers Boss told MillersPlayer that he thought he’d played like that all season saying, ‘I think people noticed it more today because he got a goal. Five minutes after that he chased a lost cause but I think that’s how Alex Revell works for the team. And when you work as hard for the team as he does then you’ll always be a bit threat to the opposition.

‘We were all delighted from the playing staff to the supporters when he got the goal and the Red Army, as I call them, in the Kop end love him and they love him because he wears his Millers shirt with pride.’

The goal today was Alex’s fifth league goal of the season and after the game he said he thought the Millers deserved all three points today.

‘I thought we played really well today, the twenty-nine year old forward said. ‘It was frustrating not to come in at half-time with the lead but their ‘keeper pulled off a couple of great saves. Then we had a couple of chances in the second half we didn’t take then Scotty Shearer made a great save and that save could be vital come the end of the season.

‘I think we thoroughly deserved the win and we probably haven’t had enough of these in the season. I thought the back five were outstanding today and at nil-nil you’re always in the game. It was nice to get a win at home because we have struggled here.

‘We’ve had a good week training and I thought everyone looked comfortable today and it’s exactly what we needed to go into Monday.’

Speaking about his goal, Revs said, ‘It was one of them when you see it happen and I saw what Arni (Kari Arnason) was going to do.

‘It’s been frustrating for me because I’ve not scored enough although I feel my performances have deserved goals. I’ve just got to keep working hard and do what the Gaffer wants me to do and as long as I work hard and keep producing for other people then I’m doing my job. I want to score goals every game and as a striker you want to get into double figures and I still believe I can reach that but if I don’t and I’m playing well and others are scoring then that’s all that matters.

‘We’re all desperate to get promoted and if I’m in a team that’s got promoted then I’ve had a good season.’
