Rotherham United’s game at the weekend against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium was called off yesterday (Thursday) and can I say I think that was a great call.

The Millers team were going to be setting off today so that’s stopped them travelling and also has given them time to sort out some other training.

And, as someone who used to help organise coaches for away travel, I want to say ‘thank you’ for deciding to call the game off early.

In the past we’ve had games called off when we were on our way, sometimes well on our way – can anyone who was there forget Torquay when we set off at 6am arriving home at midnight without getting off the coach having been stuck on the motorway when the game was called off around noon and one trip to Bristol when, despite ‘phoning them three times while on the way being told the game was off when we were quite close – and what about the trip to Notts County one evening when we were told on arriving the game was off plus Accrington when we actually got into the ground, after paddling through their car park, only for the game to be called off about fifteen minutes before kick-off.

I’d been expecting the game at Gillingham to be off since seeing the weather in Kent on Tuesday, so this early call, to me is good.

I do know there are those who think games are called off much too early but not this weekend – in fact, I’ll be surprised if there’s any actually on.

What about you – are you a ‘yes’ call it off early or a ‘no’ wait and see?
