Rotherham United striker, Derek Holmes, played, and scored, in Saturday’s two-nil win over Shrewsbury after being out for six weeks with a break to his foot.

He had played in the reserve game midweek against Barnsley where he scored two of the three goals in the win and it was this display that persuaded manager, Mark Robins to start with him on Saturday.

Speaking to The Star, Robins said, ‘That display in the reserves plus what we knew of the nature of Shrewsbury and the type of game it would be, dictated that he played.’

Derek actually got the sponsors man of the match award at Millmoor for his gritty play on Saturday.
