Rotherham United defender, Gavin Gunning was interviewed, after the win against Lincoln City at the weekend, by MillersPlayer and seems a very confident young man.

Just nineteen, Gavin was a youth player with Irish side, Crumlin United, and was picked up on a free transfer by Blackburn Rovers in January 2006, signing a pro-contract two years later. Being on the fringes of the first team, Blackburn Manager, Sam Allardyce has sent the six feet two inches defender out on loan to get some experience, firstly to Tranmere and now to the Millers, where he will stay until the end of the season.

Asked what he thought of the game on Saturday, Gavin said, ‘It was a good result but the performance wasn’t the best. I felt when they went down to ten men we should have killed it off early but we let them get back into the game. But, when their goal went in, I don’t think we paniced. We defend well as a team and, after the bad results against Bournemouth and Darlington, we’ve developed into a decent unit.’

Asked if he had settled in at Rotherham, he said, ‘It’s good here. There’s a few old men (!) and a few young lads and there’s a decent bit of banter round the place – mainly from me.’

Asked what his aim was he said, ‘hopefully to get this team promoted.’
