Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart says that the club is looking forward to getting the new Sports Academy up and running.

The Millers will soon be training in their own modern training ground which is, what most people will know as, the ‘Avesta Sports Ground’ on Bawtry Road.

Chairman, Tony Stewart told MillersPlayer that the contracts have already been exchanged and that the taking over of the ground should be on the 1st December.

‘Our groundsman, Dave Fellows, has been along and had a look and we’ve now got a designer who has put down a template where we can get four football pitches of various size there. We are well under way to get everything sorted out between now and taking over the ground.

‘Outokumpu have been fantastic with us saying we can go along and put signs up and get things moving before the 1st November and we will take full advantage of that.

‘The Academy, as we are going to call it, will offer a facility for all the teams of Rotherham United and we are preparing for the future of a proper training academy. This will offer opportunities for schools to have their finals there but it will be exclusive to Rotherham United twelve months of the year. It will also give us preparation for indoor facilities, gyms and the like so it’s a big thing for Rotherham. It’s going to be good for everyone associated with Rotherham United.’

The Millers have recently been training at Roundwood and Mr Stewart said, ‘They’ve been fantastic there. Albert has bent over backwards to please us and we will be training there for at least another season because we want to get this new area prepared. We want to say ‘thank you’ to them.’
