RUFC – Brogan-could have been worse

Rotherham United haven’t been playing that well recently and one of the reasons could be that they are missing nineteen year old defender Stephen Brogan.

Brogan had played twenty-nine league games for the Millers this season and it was during his thirtieth that he got an horrific injury, which saw him in hospital in Milton Keynes for two weeks. Going for a fifty-fifty ball the player ended up with his leg broken in two places and, although surgery went well several days later he got compartment syndrome which required further surgery leaving an open wound. But, Stephen is now back home with his family and doing well.

Speaking to The Times, the Rotherham born defender said, ‘It wasn’t a malicious tackle. It was just one of those things.’

Having hospital visits from both Rotherham and MK Dons players and managers and fans of both teams, Paddy, as he is affectionately known by the Millers fans, said that MK Dons manager, Paul Ince had told him to keep his head up and he will come back stronger.

With the Millers on the brink of going into administration and losing ten points he might have to keep his spirits up as well as his head but the club are doing their best for him and he is being treated privately in Sheffield.

He says he has received thousands of cards from both Rotherham and MK Dons fans and that he realises how much he is appreciated.

‘I’ve had a lot of support,’ he said, ‘and the specialist said hopefully, I should be back playing in nine months. It could have been worse, could have been better.

‘Until something like this happens you don’t realise how lucky you are playing football.’
