A quick look back on what was happening with the Millers on this day….

11th April 2009

It was on this day a year ago that the Millers played Notts County at Don Valley. Rotherham went into the lead a minute before half-time with a Mark Hudson goal. The lead was doubled on sixty-nine minutes when Reuben Reid scored his tenth of the season. Ex-Millers, Jonathan Forte got one back for the visitors fifteen minutes from time.

On this day two years ago the Millers were deep into administration with Jeremy Bleazard extending the deadline for people to get their bids in for the club by a week.

The headlines in The Advertiser was that the club could lose it`s league status if the creditors fail to vote for a Company Voluntary Arrangement

Meanwhile, there were a few clubs watching the Millers` only real asset at the time, ‘keeper Mark Oxley, who had been called up to play for the England U18 side.
‘Under normal circumstances we would not let him go,’ Mark Robins said, ‘but, with the situation like it is, we need the money.`

Talking about Chris O`Grady, who had refused to sign a wage deferral, Robins said that he would not let the striker leave for nothing, saying, ‘even though the transfer window has closed deals can still be agreed.`

Racism raised its ugly head at Millmoor on this day three years ago after it was discovered that Gillingham had lodged a complaint with the FA over an incident the weekend before. Gillingham’s goalkeeper, Kelvin Jack, complained to referee, Steve Bratt, over his treatment from a minority of Millers supporters in the Tivoli. Jack was able to identify the main culprit and the club issued a life time ban on the fan.

Speculation was rife over who Mark Robins would get as his second in command, with John Breckin`s name being top of most people`s list.

And what happened in the rest of the world on this day?
