Rotherham United make the short trip to the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night to take on Hull City when the referee will be Rebecca Welch from Tyne and Wear which is the first time she has been in the middle for a Millers game.

Rebecca became a football referee in 2010 her first couple of games being women’s university and Sunday League games. The 2018/19 season saw her start reffing in the National League and she became the first woman to take charge of an English Football League game when she was given the whistle for a League Two game Harrogate Town and Port Vale in April 2021. The following seasons saw her a regular in the bottom two tiers with her first FA Cup game being in November 2021 (Banbury v Barrow) and she took charge of her first Championship game last season at St Andrew’s Stadium.

During her career Rebecca has been in the middle for the Women’s Super League and 2020 saw her added to the UEFA’s Elite Women’s List and has since reffed at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

So far this season Rebecca has had the whistle for six games showing thirty-one yellow cards and one red.

Running the line on Tuesday night we have Alex James and Ian Cooper and the Fourth Official will be Adam Herczeg.
