Rotherham United started September in twelfth place in the Championship on nine points.

The month was a short one with just three games due to an international break.

Manager Paul Warne started the month by signing goalkeeper Robbie Hemfrey until the end of the season.

The first game of the month saw Watford the visitors at the New York Stadium. Richard Wood got the Millers off to a good start with a goal on two minutes but Vakoun Bayo got an equaliser thirty-one minutes later. Both sides had chances but there were no more goals with another point being added to Rotherham’s total.

Our next game was supposed to be our South Yorkshire derby game against Sheffield United but due to the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II the game was postponed.

Skipper Richard Wood was nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player for August missing out to Hull City striker Oscar Estupinan.

Blackpool were the visitors to the New York Stadium for our next game and was a comfortable win for the Millers. Chieo Ogbene’s first half goal plus further ones from Wes Harding and Georgie Kelly saw the hosts get all three points plus a clean sheet. After the game Paul Warne said it was a ‘good, overall performance.’

We had a number of players called up for International duty – Brooke Norton-Cuffy to the England U20 squad, Chieo Ogbene for the Republic of Ireland, Joshua Kayode for the Republic of Ireland U21’s and Northern Ireland called up Shane Ferguson.

Our last game for September saw us travel to Middlesbrough for a strange Saturday 7.45pm kick-off time in front of the TV camera’s. Neither team had much to talk about with the game ending goalless – which, of course meant another clean sheet.

There appeared to be some interest in our management team coming from Huddersfield Town after sacking former Miller Danny Schofield but that didn’t happen – but . . .

Paul Warne called it a day with Rotherham United and took three of the back room staff with him to Derby County. Names such as Neil Warnock, Gus Poyet , Sam Allardyce and even suggestions that Jungle favourite Harry Redknap could make the move to the New York Stadium. But the only name we really had was Mark Bonner who, the rumours told us, turned us down.

Young central-defender Jake Hull was loaned out to National League North side Boston United.

Vital Rotherham’s September Man of the Month was Ollie Rathbone.

As September came to an end the Millers were four places better off than what we started the month in with fourteen points plus having a game in hand on the seven teams ahead of them.
