Rotherham United start 2024 off with a New Year’s Day trip to take on Blackburn Rovers where Jarred Gillett from Australia has the whistle.

This will be the third time Jarred has been in charge of a Millers game the last one was also at Ewood Park in December 2020. Michael Smith put Rotherham in front just after the hour mark but less than ten minutes later Harvey Elliot got an equaliser for the hosts. But on ninety-eight minutes Rovers won a free-kick just outside the box that was eventually put away by Adam Armstrong to give the hosts all three points.

Jarred was also in the middle for our South Yorkshire derby at the New York Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday two months earlier. With just five minutes gone the ref took the players off the pitch as an illegal drone was spotted over the stadium. And just after coming back on Jamie Lindsay gave Rotherham the lead with a header. On thirty-nine minutes a mix up in the Owls defence saw Tom Lees bring down Florian Jozefzoon and he was sent-off with Dan Barlaser scoring from the resulting penalty. Five minutes later a Barlaser shot was parried out as far as Lindsay who got his second and the Millers third which is how the game ended.

In the fourteen Jarred has been in the middle for this season – two of which were in the Europa Conference League – he has shown sixty-six yellow cards and three red.

Running the line on New Year’s Day we have Darren Cann and Daniel Robathan with the Fourth Official being Stephen Martin.
