Seven hundred and eighty two Millers fans went home happy on Saturday after seeing Micky Cummins give the visitors all three points at Lincoln.

The first half was a bit of a scrappy affair although Cummins had a shot in the first five minutes which was blocked on the line. Drewe Broughton then had the ball in the net but was flagged offside before the Imps first attempt was headed well wide by Janos Kovacs. The home ‘keeper, Rob Burch, did well to keep a powerful shot by Jamie Clarke, out with his fingertips while minutes later, Clarke had a shot blocked by Scott Kerr when he got on the end of an Ian Sharps header. Reuben Reid should have put the visitors in the lead but his header went over the bar. In time added on, a Lincoln corner by Kerr was met by Geoff Horsfield but he headed it straight into the waiting arms of Andy Warrington who’s long throw out eventually found Mark Hudson who hit a shot some twenty yards out which was defelected for a corner.

The Millers had the first chance of the second half when Nick Fenton got on the end of a Pablo Mills free kick only to put the ball into the hands of Burch. At the other end, Fenton did well to clear the danger when a ball from Paul Green looked certain to find Anthony Elding who would surely have had a go at goal. Then came the only goal of the game. Clarke waltzed his way into the area and had a shot at goal which Burch did well to keep out. The ball deflected to Micky Cummins who, as cool as you like, slotted the ball into the empty net. The Imps players went straight to the referee to say that Broughton was in an offside position but Mr Salisbury was having none of it and gave the goal. A few minutes later, Burch made another good save from the feet of Mark Hudson and Ryan Taylor, who was on for Reid, saw a shot well saved by the Imps’ ‘keeper. Sam Mullarkey came on for Elding and his first touch was a shot that Warrington found easy to gather. Taylor then managed to shrug off a challenge by Frank Sinclair but saw his shot go just over. With five minutes to go the home side won a corner and a Lee Beevers shot was blocked and finally put out for a throw-in. In the final minute, Jamie Green got the ball from Cummins and he fired over the advancing Burch only to see his shot rattle the underside of the crossbar and then cleared by Kovacs. In time added on, a Danny N’Guessen cross found Kovacs but his header crashed against the crossbar to give the Millers a let-off.

Another three points in the bag as Mark Robins’ Mighty Millers go marching up the table.
