Rotherham United have taken nine points out of nine over the Christmas period and took the last three in style today at Meadow Lane when goals from Reuben Reid, Drewe Broughton and Micky Cummins gave the visitors a three-nil win.

Notts County had the Millers under pressure in the first few minutes and the home side had a good shout for a penalty on three minutes when ex Miller, Delroy Facey, went down in the box under a challenge from Ian Sharps. But, experienced referee, Mike Dean, waved away their protests. And it was just two minutes later that a Danny Harrison cross found Reid who fired past Kevin Pilkington in County’s net from inside the box to give the Millers the lead. David Stockdale had little to do in the Millers net until the twenty-fifth minute when he made a save low to his left to stop a John Thompson effort go in. Thompson had another effort a couple of minutes later but he rushed his shot and pulled it wide. Five minutes before half-time Delroy Facey got a free kick on the edge of the box but wasted the effort by putting it woefully wide.

It didn’t take long for the Millers to double their lead when, a minute into the second half, Mark Hudson found himself clear on the left and sent the ball to Broughton who calmley slotted the ball home. Five minutes later, Micky Cummins smashed home a sweet left foot volley into the top corner of the net to make it three-nil. Stockdale came into play on the hour mark when he had to get down and save well from a Jamie Clapham free-kick but, really, the home side had little answer to the Millers today. Five minutes later, Reid and Dale Tonge played a one-two only for the defender to thump the ball just wide of the goal. And so the Millers held on for a great victory and three more points.

Another much needed three points on our travels which will set us up for our home game in the new year against Dagenham and Redbridge.
