Rotherham United manager, Alan Knill, told Radio Sheffield tonight that the right word to use for the game today would be ‘Embarrassed.’

He carried on, ‘It is the first time that I can’t defend the players. It had nothing to do with tactics, the players looked like they didn’t want to win – especially in the first half. There was no belief out there today.

‘It was a poor performance and we didn’t make the right decisions. But, I didn’t think there was anything in it until the first goal, which was a mix up between goalkeeper and left back and from there we went backwards. It takes strong characters to get out of it, characters who can stand up and take control and they need to show it. The players have to take responsibility for today.

‘The realism is that we are in a relegation fight and you have to do just that, fight, to get out of it.’

Of the sending off he said,’Yes, Cochrane deserved to go.’

He was asked if he felt like going to the board and asking for more money for players, to which he answered, ‘Looking at that performance today no one would want to come to us. We need a centre half – I can’t rely on Pablo (Mills), he got injured again in training yesterday. I need a defender, someone who can make a tackle.

‘I am disappointed for all the fans who travelled today.’
