For more than twenty-four hours there have been ‘rumours’ going around that the EFL will tell Leagues One and Two that their season has ended.

If we are being truthful I think we’ve all been expecting this to happen.

But, of course, then comes the question of ‘how will it end’?

Will the 2019/20 season be written off and we’ll start with the same teams in the Leagues as we did in August? If so, does that mean Bury can come back into the league? Not sure about that. And will it mean that Bolton start on an even keel? Well, not sure about that either.

Will we go again next season with the same teams who were there in March when we played the last games? Well, is that fair to the teams who have fought to get to towards the top?

Will there be promotions and relegation? Will the top two go up and the next four find some way of having play-off games? Can’t see that happening as then the season won’t exactly have finished will it? So does that mean the top three in League One, as it stands, will go up and the bottom three go down? Is that fair if teams have games in hand and could have changed that?

It is thought that the EFL are giving the clubs a vote of what they want to happen – well I think it’s quite obvious that the teams in the top three will be voting for it to stay as it is and they go up. And, even if I wasn’t a Rotherham United fan, you can’t blame clubs for voting like that can you.

Already there have been rumbles with Peterborough United Chairman Darragh MacAnthony taking to Twitter to say if this happens then the EFL should ‘prepare for a legal battle of epic proportions’ – and I can understand why he’d say that. And I don’t expect him to be the only one to vent his feelings.

It might not be fair but, as a Millers fan, I’d fully expect my team to say ‘yes’ if asked if they wanted to be promoted after getting to second place in the table. They just couldn’t say ‘no’ could they.

At the moment life isn’t fair. There’s not a lot we can do about it. As regards football I do think that something has to be sorted sooner rather than later and everybody has to take whatever is decided on the chin and move onto next season.

Stay Safe.

Up The Millers.
