Head 2 Head Millers v Spireites

On Tuesday 24th August 2004 in a League cup 1st round tie at Millmoor, The Millers finally beat Chesterfield after 25 years and 22 games.
Paul Allott opened the scoring for the Spireites after 11 minutes and things looked to be taking a familiar route, but a 33rd minute equaliser from Michael Proctor followed by a 83rd minute winner from Richie Barker finally broke the hoodoo which had lasted for a quarter of a century.

The previous Millers victory was in Division 3 back on the 22nd of September 1979.
A second half double from future Millers manager Billy McEwan gave the Millers both points.

5 of the 6 Millers league victories at Millmoor came in the 1970’s.
The other 4 were 9th December 1978 and a Dave Gwyther second half goal to win 1-0.
28th December 1976 with the only goal coming from an Alan Crawford penalty.
On 6th December 1975 the Millers won 2-0 with goals either side of half time from Jimmy Goodfellow and Mark Rhodes.
Finally back on 3rd March 1973 when Eddie Ferguson scored the games only goal.

Earlier this season Chesterfield avenged the previous seasons victory, with a 2-1 win and goals from Caleb Folan and former Miller Paul Shaw cancelling out Will Hoskins early strike to bring Rotherham level.
