Disappointment As Games Called Off

Rotherham United have had to postpone two games, so far, as they have players who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The game against Derby County at the New York Stadium was, admittedly, a late call-off, two hours before the game was due to kick-off with the Boxing Day game away at Middlesbrough also having to be cancelled too.

Rams’ Interim Manager Wayne Rooney told DerbyshireLive that, with his team on a good run, it was ‘frustrating’ that the game was called off saying, ‘we  were a little bit disappointed we weren’t notified earlier on Rotherham’s situation.’

Whatever he thinks the Millers did everything by the book and a conversation with the EFL ended with Rotherham getting approval to cancel the game.

Former Miller’s player and Manager and now Boss of Middlesbrough Neil Warnock is obviously also disappointed that the Boxing Day clash is off telling TeesideLive, ‘I’m disappointed but safety has to come first. Hopefully we can play it as soon as possible in the New Year.’

Of the last two games Rotherham scored three goals – beating Bristol City at the New York Stadium two-nil and losing two-one away against Blackburn Rovers – two games where the Millers played extremely well so it’s not only our opposition managers who are disappointed with not being able to play their games I’m sure our manager Paul Warne is just as upset. The fans are also upset not being able to watch the team albeit at home on our various devices. It is a shame but some things are more important than football and one of those is the health of the squad.

The Millers now have two players who have tested positive for the coronavirus and it is possible, though not confirmed yet, that our South Yorkshire derby at home to Barnsley could also be postponed which should take place on Tuesday, 29th December.
