Two goals from Mark Burchill in five minutes helped the Millers on their way to three points on Saturday at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

The Millers started brightly and there was no argument about the penalty when Burchill was bundled over. He got up, put the ball on the spot and cooly slid the ball past Ian Dunbavin in Stanley’s goal. It was all Rotherham and there was no surprise when they doubled their lead on eleven minutes when a Dale Tonge cross found Burchill who put the ball in the back of the net. And, a few minutes later Burchill should perhaps have had his hat-trick when he was clean through on goal with just the ‘keeper to beat but Dunbavin came into his own and made a great stop from the twenty-eight year old. Ex-Miller, John Mullin, had Stanley’s first shot at goal on twenty minutes but a great finger tip save from David Stockdale denied him and at the other end, Tonge somehow managed to put the ball wide with Dunbavin stranded. Just past the half hour mark, Stanley pulled a goal back from Andy Procter when he was left unmarked in the six yard box. It was all the home side then and Paul Mullin could have got the equaliser just before half-time but headed just wide.

The second half didn’t quite live upto the first and it was the home side who could have scored on the hour mark when only a brilliant save from Stockdale stopped John Miles get the equaliser. The Millers started to take hold of the game again and Mark Hudson saw a shot from twenty-five yards out go past the goal. Dunbavin then made a great save from Nick Fenton before Jamie Green found Drewe Broughton with a inch perfect pass in the six yard box and the tall striker put the ball into the back of the net.

A good three points for the Millers and let’s hope it’s the start of many more!
