Will Players Come In This Week?

After this weeks two friendly wins Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told the Official Site that although his squad still looks a little ‘ring rusty’ and aren’t quite one hundred per cent match fit, he believes things are coming on well.

Of the five pre-season friendlies so far – three in England, two in Austria – the Millers have won four and drawn one. OK, we might not have played any of the elite sides and things might change next Wednesday when Neil Warnock brings his Cardiff City team to the New York Stadium, these five games have been about getting minutes on the pitch for as many players as possible.

So, things on the pitch are going as expected.

Things off the pitch, probably, in my eyes, not so well.

Although Warney says that he still thinks he will get the players who he wants to come to Rotherham, I’m beginning to think that we might have to go to ‘page two’ of ‘players we want to come in’.

Hey, I might be wrong, and I sincerely hope I am – I hope we get five players who our manager thinks will enhance the team in before the weekend, but, I’ll be honest, I’m getting less hopeful with every day that passes and no new faces arrive.

Names that were bandied about at the start of last month have probably been forgotten by us fans now and might not have even been on Warney’s list. A few new names have been brought forward on social media this week. We had A Trialist playing in the game against Sheffield FC last night who has been named, again on social media, as former Chesterfield defensive midfielder Sam Hird. This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Doncaster born thirty year old so it might well have been him last night.

I’ve also been wondering if we have thoughts of fetching back Lee Camp to bring our goalkeepers up to three, after he was recently released by Cardiff.

Warney says he’s not panicking yet, which is good, because, frankly, I’m getting a bit jittery.
