The competition’s first game will commence the week beginning 13th August – as a Miller I’m hoping for a home draw – although I’ve yet to go to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light (when we go up they come down and vice versa!) so I don’t suppose I’d really mind that, except for the mid-week travelling.

This season’s competition sees games take place over ninety minutes but there will be no extra time and the game will go straight to penalties, although the Final will see extra time played.  The EFL are not using the ABBA system of penalties this season – obviously confused too many people in the Checkatrade Trophy games last season!

Last season the Millers took on Lincoln City at the New York Stadium in the first round of this cup with goals from Jamie Proctor and Anthony Forde giving the hosts a two-one win. They were knocked out in the second round by Premier League side Huddersfield Town.
