Rotherham United return to football from the International break this weekend with a game against Derby County but also looking a little under strength.
After an operation, that is thought to have gone well, defender Sean Raggett is going to be missing for some weeks. The twenty-four year old, who is on loan from Norwich, limped off after twenty minutes in the game away at the DW Stadium at the beginning of the month. In an interview with iFOLLOW this week Millers Manager, Paul Warne, said that Sean will be doing his rehabilitation in Rotherham.
The man who replaced Raggett at Wigan, Clark Robertson, is also struggling with a groin injury while winger Joe Newell has been struggling with a slight hip injury and hasn’t trained as much as he normally would and Warney isn’t keen on playing him if he’s not fully fit.
So, not good news with Raggett definitely out and Robertson a doubt. Who will Warney put in their place? Manny Onariase would fit in but having played just two games in a Rotherham shirt which were both last season in the Checkatrade Trophy I doubt he’s ready for a Championship game. It could be that we move a couple of players around but my guess would be that fit again Billy Jones will get the nod if Robertson doesn’t make it. The former Sunderland player suffered an injury before the break but was fit enough to feature on the bench in our Cup game against Everton, though didn’t get on the pitch.
I think the team will obviously feature goalkeeper Marek Rodak, though, after his goal for his country this week, it could be we see him going up the other end for the odd corner! I’m expecting to see both Zak Vyner and Joe Mattock in defence with Richard Wood, Semi Ajayi and Will Vaulks starting too. I’d be surprised if the midfield didn’t include Ryan Manning who, in my eyes, hasn’t put a foot wrong since he joined on loan from Queens Park Rangers but I wonder if both Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams will get the nod? And might this game be a good one to start Kyle Vassell up front alongside Michael Smith? Plus a lot of us will be hoping that Richie Towell gets some minutes on the pitch – whether he will start or not we will have to wait and see.
As we speculate and wonder I’m rather suspecting that Warney already knows who is in the starting eleven against Derby.
But who would you start?
