Rotherham United have named their retained list and although there aren’t many surprises among the ‘first team’ players I think some of us will ponder on the youngsters who have been released.

Released players include Joe Mattock who has been at the club since the summer of 2015. He played in twenty-seven games this season including starting the Papa John’s Trophy win at Wembley. Mickel Miller had already announced to the fans that he was leaving while the club won’t be taking up the option to activate the extra year on Freddie Ladapo‘s contract. Angus MacDonald is another who we won’t be seeing in a Rotherham shirt again.

Of the younger players who won’t be offered a new contract are Jake Cooper, who has been out on loan with Darlington this season and Jacob Gratton who has had a loan spell with Farsley Celtic.

All at Vital Rotherham wish them all the best in their future careers

The club have took the option to extend the current deals for another year for Josh Chapman, Jake Hull, Viktor Johansson and Chieo Ogbene, while Michael Smith, Michael Ihiekwe and Jamie Lindsay have all been offered new deals.
