What Those Stats Tell Us – Millers v Wimbledon

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said the Millers had enough chances to win the game against Wimbledon yesterday and how right he is.

The Millers had twenty-two shots at goal yesterday of which nine were on target – I think that’s probably the most shots we’ve had in one game this season (but do stand to be corrected). I think of those nine on target a couple were good saves from the ‘keeper but more than half of them were misses. Misses we probably can’t afford to be making at this stage of the season. Wimbledon had just five shots of which three were on target.

Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at fifty-five per cent and all over the pitch at sixty-five per cent with our crossing accuracy coming in at twenty-one per cent but maybe we can put some of the blame of that on Storm Dennis.

We had twelve corners to Wimbledon’s six and our possession was sixty-one per cent while we conceded eighteen fouls to the sixteen of our visitors with Wimbledon getting the only yellow cards of the afternoon.

All in all, and adding Storm Dennis into the equation, some of our football was good, we did enough to win but we didn’t.  Got to put that behind us now and think about our next game which is away at Accrington next weekend – weather, storms permitting.
