What The Stats Say – Millers v U’s

Rotherham United’s first half display at Oxford yesterday gave them a well deserved three points.

Two goals from Kyle Vassell plus a header from skipper Richard Wood sent nearly nine hundred fans back happy to South Yorkshire although the Gaffer, in his post-match interview, was disappointed that we let the U’s in to score in the second half.

So, I am a little surprised to see that, according to the stats, we only had thirty-nine per cent of possession – I mean, really? We had almost ALL the possession in the first half and, granted, Oxford upped their game in the second half I really am surprised to see this stat.

The Millers won the majority of the duels both on the ground and in the air with the stats telling us that we had two corners to Oxford’s eight. (I’m wrinkling my brow at this one too). And, apparently our passing accuracy is forty-nine per cent with a forty-five per cent success rate in the opponents half – Oxford’s came out at seventy-four and sixty-three. (Now I’m beginning to wonder if the stats man didn’t think we were the home team).

They also tell us that Oxford had twelve shots at goal of which four were on target with Rotherham having seven on target from eleven shots.

There were two yellow cards apiece with the Millers conceding sixteen fouls to The U’s eleven.

Of course, all that really matters is the ball in the back of the net which Rotherham did two more times than Oxford.
