What The Stats Say – Millers v Rovers

We had a quick look at the percentage stats at half-time in yesterday’s game and was amazed (my gob was well smacked) to see that Doncaster had more of the play – what? Not a clue where they got that from. Yes, at full time it was fifty-five per cent to forty-five percent to the hosts which was probably about right.

The figures show that the Millers were better in the air and slightly better at crossing accuracy while both sides had just four corners. (It felt like we had more). Rovers had fourteen shots at goal with seven being on target and Rotherham had eight shots at goal with just one on target.

To be honest I don’t think either ‘keeper was bothered much in the first half but Lewis Price, who apparently wasn’t one hundred percent, brought off some cracking saves in the second half. Millers Manager Paul Warne said he thought the penalty decision was a bit iffy but I’ve just seen it back and it was definitely a pull on the shirt by Michael Ihiekwe and if a player gets his shirt pulled in the area he’s going to go down. And what a super strike from the free-kick from Jake Hastie on his debut and Coppinger’s goal wasn’t bad either.

I’d like to mention the crowd figure of just low of eleven and a half thousand – I’m a bit surprised at the high figure as there were a lot of spaces among the Rovers fans.  Anyone else think the same?

As a final thought one thing I think the Millers have to learn is that the game is ninety minutes plus – not just forty-five.
