Rotherham United played out a goalless draw with Shrewsbury Town at the New York Stadium this afternoon – but should we have got more than a point?
Well the stats suggest that we had the majority of the possession – sixty-two per cent to the visitors thirty-eight. They also tell us that we had sixteen shots at goal, four of which were on target to Shrewsbury’s six shots of which two were on goal. I actually think both ‘keepers had little to do with O’Leary in the visitors net making a couple of good saves and Iversen bringing off one good save.
We, apparently, had three hundred and ninety-nine passes this afternoon which led to a seventy-two per cent score in passing accuracy – and sixty-three per cent passing accuracy in our opponents half. It all seemed a bit long ball to me, which appeared to be the only way we could get passed the Shrews defence.
We had six corners to the Shrews five – but, today, I don’t think our corners were executed correctly – there didn’t seem to be anyone who could get a head to it (and I’d love to have seen someone on the back post – but I know that’s probably a bit old fashioned these days).
It wasn’t the best of games – Shrewsbury were too negative, the Millers didn’t know how to break them down. But, on the up side, we kept a clean sheet and although I think most of us thought we were in line for another three points at home a point is better than nothing.
