What Happens With Purrington Now?

|

Rotherham United might not have been in this season’s play-off finals but one of their players, Ben Purrington was involved by scoring the first goal in Charlton Athletic’s Wembley win over Sunderland on Sunday.

Joining the Millers in January 2017 defender Ben made ten games that season and injury kept his efforts to just twelve appearances the following season. He started last season on loan with AFC Wimbledon before being recalled in January and sent out to finish the season with the Addicks. Sunday’s was his first goal in twenty-one games for Charlton but what a time to score!

So, what will be happening with Ben this coming season?

Rotherham Boss Paul Warne told The Advertiser earlier this month that he hadn’t ‘shut the door’ on a return for Ben and if he ‘wants to come back and compete for a shirt’ then that would be fine by him.

After Sunday’s game Ben himself told the SouthLondonPress that he’d enjoyed his time with Charlton and would be ‘one hundred per cent’ open to going back their next season saying, ‘It’s a great club. I’ve scored at Wembley for Charlton now so the club means a bit to me now. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer.’

The twenty-three year old still has a year left on his contract with Rotherham.

I’m not convinced he will stop if Charlton offer him a deal – though if that happens I hope it will be for money and not a loan. No, not many signings but I suppose players have been away or if we’ve offered them a deal will be mulling it over to see if a better one comes in. But, like you, I hope we can get our business up, running and done for the start of our friendlies.
