What Do Yesterday’s Stats Say

|

Rotherham United got a last minute equaliser at home to Reading yesterday which, going at three o’clock I think a lot of us were saying this was a ‘must win game’.

We didn’t win, we drew and after a first half which is probably the worst forty-five minutes I’ve seen a Rotherham team play in the last year, we have to name it a ‘battling draw’.

Reading had more possession although only just but the Millers won more corners – thirteen to four which means we must have been in or around their box a lot. Our passing accuracy was sixty-three per cent with a fifty-three per cent accuracy in our opponents half.

Rotherham had twenty-six shots at goal of which ten were on target – I’m thinking all those must have been in the second half.

I do feel we got out of this by the skin of our teeth – I also feel we must start two up front against West Brom next weekend. What I’ve seen of Smith and Proctor playing together they make a pretty good team although, of course, that leaves the midfield a little light – rather pleased this isn’t my problem to solve!

I agree with you no team at home should ever start with only one up front. I think W arne has tunnel vision when it comes to team selection athome. He picks three wingers Tailor, Williams& Forde collectively i dont think they have scored more than 6/7 goals between them all season. Newell is a must he is the only ball player in the team. Procter or Vassel when fit must also be included. Further more we need a new right back

I actually think Vyner has stepped up his game over the last few matches – yes, he makes mistakes and he wasn’t great yesterday but he wasn’t alone was he. Like you say, Alan, I do feel two up front at home makes us look like we are going for it and could make the opposition think a bit more. Saying all that, I thought Reading were set out really well yesterday.
