What Do Those Stats Say?

Rotherham United might not have won away at the City Ground on Saturday and they might not have had to best possession stats (though, personally, I’d query those) but, in the end, it took a penalty to give the hosts all three points.

It looks about right with it saying we were better in the air than Forest, we had as many corners as they did but it’s the attacking stats that worry me a little.

For instance, Forest had six shots outside the box to our one although we both had three shots inside the box. And, in actual fact, according to the Official Site’s stats our shooting accuracy was better than the hosts.

Another thing I think we have to get better is our accuracy in passing. Time and time again the short passes didn’t get there and the long passes up front didn’t get there either. There were passes in the first half that only a greyhound could have caught while some sent so strong our player did better to get out of the way in case he ended up in the stands (OK, I exaggerate there!) Let’s be honest, if you can’t pass or move to receive a pass then you aren’t going to keep hold of the ball and if you don’t keep hold of the ball well, it’s obvious what’s going to happen. And I might be having a bit of a dig a players here but I think our counterparts were just as bad.

It’s been a long week, three games in seven days two of which have been away from home. We have a week before our televised home game against Stoke. A week to practice those passing skills!
