What Do The Stats Say – Millers v ‘Boro

There were two hundred and sixty-five proud Millers who came away from the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night after Rotherham United had held top of the table Middlesbrough to a goalless draw on their home soil.

You couldn’t really be anything else but proud of the battling display Paul Warne’s men put up for their Manager who was in charge of his hundredth game that night.

Although the stats show that the hosts had the majority of the percentage of the game I’m sure that particular stat wouldn’t have been the same after the first forty-five minutes.

I couldn’t fault any part of the performance and our tackling was as good as any I’ve seen this season.

I see the ‘shots’ stats’ say that we had just eight shots with only two of them being on target while ‘Boro had twenty shots of which five were on target while both sides shooting accuracy was twenty-five percent. But, as we proved, it’s not all about goals. Tuesday night, for the Millers, was about keeping a clean sheet. Once you do that then you’ve a chance of a shot going in. We defended solidly with often Michael Smith and Ryan Williams helping out too.

I might be biased but I actually thought our players looked quicker than the home players. I know some of our passes went astray but we also put some good balls into the box.

All in all a good solid performance where we took our first away point of the season, which, unfortunately, unless we take the game to Preston at their ground on Saturday might mean nothing.
