What Do The Stats Look Like – Millers v Coventry

Rotherham United needed to get something from yesterday’s game against Coventry City, who, like us came up from League One last season and also like us are at the wrong end of the table.

But, as we know, we came away with nothing but another injury and a disappointed Manager.

After the opening few minutes we didn’t play well. Coventry scored and we looked around shocked, they scored again and we looked around again with puzzled expressions that seemed to say ‘what do we do now?’. Could we put subs on as early as twelve minutes – well, maybe but from who was on our bench I could only think of one player who might change things. He came on for the second half and scored the penalty.

Yet, saying that, we look at the stats which say the Millers had more possession – fifty-seven per cent, we won more duels in the air, we had a corner more. Our passing accuracy was better and we had more passes. But then it falls down because both teams had ten shots at goal – Coventry had seven on target, the Millers just one, which, I presume was the penalty.

Perhaps the Gaffer will completely change things for Tuesday night – although the way our luck is going with injured players maybe he won’t have enough to choose from to do that.
